Description: The Red Panda is not really directly related to the Giant panda except through the process of convergent evolution where both have evolved to live in the same habitat and eat mostly the same diet of bamboo. The Red panda is however not a bear relative but in fact is distantly related to an ancient racoon predecessor. Growing more and more rare in its Asiatic range it is sadly falling prey to fur hunters and only intensive efforts will prevent it becoming extinct in the wild.
