Description: The Barking owl is a Australian species which has the rather endearing habit of greeting intruders into its territory by leaning forward....fluffing up the feathers around its neck and face.....then emitting short double "woof woof" sounds that seem for all the world like a small terrier dog. Unnerving if you are in the bush as a novice camper only to hear dogs barking in the tree tops at night!!
