'Fire among the tree ferns – crimson rosella'
28 x 48cm
Pastel - drawing on colourfix paper
The crimson rosella of eastern Australia is a truly iconic bird....very common but extremely beautiful. Wherever they go in the forest they appear as little fires of red against the deep dull greens of the eucalypts and acacias. They have seemingly cheerful and trusting dispositions and often become very tame around habitation. Indeed on my own back verandah they often perch on your knee or even on the top of your book when you are trying to enjoy a peaceful read. But common as they may be one can never take these glorious birds for granted.
